flowering-iceberg-lettuce

My lettuce isn't seeming to look like an iceberg lettuce it is growing tall and starting to form little buds for flowers. The leaves are not starting to curl in to form a ball at all i sowd them in mid may and they seem to look healthy but i have never seen flowing on an iceberg lettuce before can some one just tell me if this is normal because it's the very firts time i have grown them.

It's bolting lewis. The hot dry weather has made it difficult this year for lots of veg- i had the same issue with spinach and some of my lettuce. . Some varieties were better than others. Unfortunately once they form flowers it tends to make the lettuce bitter and unpalatable Gave up with the spinach altogether but sowed more lettuce which was fine as the weather became more normal. image
