  A while ago I stayed in a fabulous holiday rental, a luxurious converted boat house on Lake Windermere. The guest book was full of effusive thanks to the owners for letting the guests stay there. Wait a minute, I thought, I am paying them an enormous stash of money for this rental and I really think they should be thanking me.
  
  We provided to Intermediate Media the market for the advertising they sold and profited from. I think I’ll wait for their thanks first.

  It was free, I ignored the adverts and I’ll miss the banter and people on here a lot. As for the company running it all I have neither good or bad to say other than recently there was a lot of issues, lack of real moderation, which in the end clearly helped the demise. Perhaps for any other forums they run they should learn some lessons from here. 

  Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

  I enjoyed it hugely and was impressed, and I said as much. But I had paid handsomely for the stay so I felt no need to express fawning gratitude as others had done. It was a commercial exchange, beneficial to both parties. 

  
  

  The parallels with the closure of this forum are quite close. If Intermediate Media had handled this closure better, and they could scarcely have handled it worse, and had been more responsive to the issues put to them over the past year or so I would look more charitably on them.

  But how can you know what happened behind the scenes to force the closure? Loads of companies make changes, lay people off, mechanise - that is what happens. Maybe, in the time of 'social medja' forums are expensive and old hat - and a poor source of 'big data'. But I've been here a while and never had to pay for anything at their expense.

And it didn't cost me a penny. Not often you can say that.
