Pathway border bedding size?

For my front garden I am creating a bedding border to run alongside the path leading to the front door where I plan to grow a low formal hedge (2ft in height approx). How wide show I be making the border? 40cm 50cm 60cm? Is there a standard for these type of things?

    Hi @Neil81B. If you are keeping your hedge that tall a 40cm border will suffice.

    I always think the wider the better but it's up to you really.

    60cms gives extra room for plants to soread to their full potential but 40cm will do if you're planning to plant neat, well-behaved plants that don't get too exhuberant.

    I take it you know this forum is closing tomorrow so you'll need to start again elsewhere.   Many of us have found a warm welcome on Gardeners Corner.

    Thanks for your answer, 50cm might be a nice compromise! Yes, such a shame this is closing but will be heading over to Gardeners Corner for my regular doses of expert advice! Thanks for the recommendation
