A mammal is probably doing plops in my pond

I see a visiting mammal sitting on my pond edge, as if sitting on a loo seat, with its rear end hovering above - or maybe even trailing in- the pond.

I could not work out if it was plopping or watering the pond.

First time that I have ever seen a mammal do this in a pond - they usually drink from it! -

Is this odd behaviour?

Do you know what kind of mammal (approximately)? Possibly a way of making sure it doesn't leave a scent that a predator might follow?

Ooh, not thought of that, thankyou @JennyJ.
It was dusk when I saw it, but it was wearing a furry coat, so I did not get the best view of it and I did not see it's face.

Foxes will poo in a drinking bowl you leave out.

Ooh how foul, @B3. I hope they don't drink from it afterwards. I know dogs can eat all sorts of things, but don't know about foxes. I did see a fox sleeping in my old shed before 2020, but have not seen any for ages.

I doubt they drink from it. They are marking their territory
    Disgusting ungrateful behaviour!

    So ungrateful of them, @B3!

Lol @waterbutts!  Sounds a real character. What I saw was like that, reminiscent of someone sitting on the loo...

Going to see if I can make the pond edge a bit less attractive for it/them.  At least it is not a fish pond, I suppose.

My dentist’s cat uses her toilet bowl as a place to relieve herself. She yowls if the seat cover is left down and she yowls if the husband has left the cold ceramic edge for her to sit on.

It has to be just right, with the “ladies’” seat in place. Thank you. And now please could you flush it for me?

    True.
Really smart cat! One of ours will come in and watch if she gets half a chance, but she hasn't yet learned to use the toilet herself. Then again, perhaps it's better that way because she sometimes manages to miss her litter tray.
