Cherry tree

just planted a cheery tree already 5 feet tall.   Can anyone recommend a suitable bird deterrent  netting  preferably easy to apply   ?  Thanks in advance

Hello @Potwoman, I'm afraid I don't think anti-bird netting is a good idea unless your cherry tree is planted against a wall. I think the birds will just try landing on a branch and pecking at your cherries through the netting. I don't grow cherries myself but hopefully others might and will respond to your queries.

I take it you've seen the notice of the forum closing for good next week?

Please don't use netting, birds get tangled in it and can break their legs or die.
You could try hanging shiny things off it to deter the birds, but in all honesty, they will get the fruit.
Our cherries didn't get touched much years ago, but as I encourage birds of all shapes and sizes into my garden now, my huge cherry tree is their daily perch and they know exactly where to find tasty fruit! So, if you don't get lots of birds coming in, you might not get noticed.

We tried all sorts to prevent the pigeons and then the magpies and then the blackbirds from attacking the new leaves, then the unripe green cherries and then the plums. The magpies then go for the apples on the trees when there are fallen ones on the ground! We put up pieces of bonded fibre to hang around the trees....totally ignored. Tied unused CDs so that the light caught them...again totally ignored. Made a model of a sparrow hawk that moved in the wind...yes you are right, totally ignored. So have given up and let them take what they do and hope they leave some for us.
