Prunus serrulata royal burgundy

Looking for advice on planting my prunus serrulata royal burgundy ornamental, I would like to plant it in a large pot and just wondering what would be best to put in the pot or do I just fill it with loam compost, I'm just beginner and desperate for advice thanks 😊

Hi @bvivers1909263 - it would be ok in a large pot for a while, but while in there, it will certainly need a loam based medium. Compost isn't hefty enough for any shrub or tree long term.
It will also need proper drainage, so make sure there are good holes in the pot, and that they are kept clear of the growing medium so that excess water can drain. It will be entirely dependent on you for it's needs though, and keeping it watered in summer will be the main job. It will also need some of the top layer of soil refreshed each year, and it's a good idea to add a layer of bark or similar as a mulch, to help retain moisture and keep weeds at bay   :)

However, long term - it will need to be planted in the ground, because although pots can slow the rate of growth, they aren't usually big enough for long term planting unless you can root prune and also prune the top.  They're sometimes sold as standards, but I'm assuming it isn't one of those?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
