The rose thread has been a brilliant for a number of years inspirational sums it up greatly . Marlorena - Nollie and everyone else has been a star .
My own rose collection has increased and bank account decreased but not as much as others though .
If a rose thread is going to be set up on another forum which ever one it is I'd like to tag along . I am on Gardeners Corner its much quieter than this forum ( for now ) . I was on another called -gardening forum - but its more of a international forum but still ok.
Such sad news indeed, very much the end of an era. The forum and this thread in particular has been my gardening lifeline, living in a place that has little interest in plants and gardening.
@Marlorena that’s very kind of you to say, although my passion for roses may never have developed much at all without you so generously sharing your knowledge and love of them.
I think what saddens me the most is the loss of the vast treasure trove of information and inspiration contained in the rose threads over the years. If only there was some way of archiving that content and still making it available someplace.
I will miss you all, but perhaps we will meet again some other place..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Well, I for one do not want to miss you all! ... a sentiment I am sure we all share. We really do need to find an alternative forum and then join en masse. Probably doubling the new forums membership!
And I am sure all the other GW Forum threads will be looking for a 'new home' too.
So there will be a lucky forum out there about to be inundated.
I assume so @clematisdorset, since the announcement states “Wednesday 27 March The forum will finally close at noon and will no longer be accessible via GardenersWorld.com” - so the entire priceless archive content of the forum will simply disappear.

I do know other blogs and forums that become 'archival only' and are no longer updated. That would be better than nothing.
I would like to continue communing, so hopefully one of the other gardening forums might be a help for the future, but the loss of this archive I find really upsetting and wrong even!
Priceless is the word.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
However, I'm immensely thankful to @Marlorena and all other contributors for their help, guidance, photos, experiences etc. over the past few years. This was the forum wherein I could experience the multitude of roses you have in your gardens, as if they were in my own. I'll miss this forum terribly as it has become an integral part of my life. With no archival, the loss in terms of the photos we have posted so far in the various threads of this forum is HUGE.
Hopefully we will find a new home somewhere on the interweb. How about Houzz? There is a roses forum there. May be we can have Roses in UK thread there. <Fingers crossed>

@Eustace It's funny you should mention that. I had this post typed up in my 'draft folder' which I was going to put up later today, so I'll post it now.. **********
Ok, I have an idea in case anyone is interested. I don't expect you to be, but I'm just putting it out there. As some of you may know already, I've long been a member of a U.S. site called Houzz. Most of them know me, and I know most of them. I used to start all sorts of threads on my roses and gardens here, just as I do on this site. Americans are usually very welcoming and they comment and chat. Posting photos is fairly straightforward, there have been some glitches. Registering is easy but one does have to adjust settings, as it's a very commercial site if you don't want to be pestered with emails from them.
I was on there just the other day posting photos of a rose I used to have. I am considering starting a thread titled ''Roses in UK/Europe''.. which obviously will be dedicated to that. I do hope some of you may follow me over and contribute, it will be much like we do here but with a different audience, but you can take it from me, they are usually very friendly and tolerant. There are some European members on there of longstanding. They always enjoyed seeing what we grow here too, they can't always get our roses and vice versa, or just comparing the same roses in different countries.
It may not be quite the same, but it's worth a go. I expect to start the thread about mid April, if not sooner. Like here, there are no moderators to butt in, so we should be left to just get on with it. See you there I hope !..
This is very sad news. I found this such a useful resource for a gardening beginner. Can definitely confirm that my rose collection has grown hugely since joining 😆 I will miss seeing everyone’s lovely photos when the flowers are out. Thank you to everyone and those that have helped with my queries.
