Acer from seed.

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
I sowed a seed from my acer last year. The buds are swelling.  I don't  know  the name but it's  not a fancy one.
I just did it for fun and now I  don't  know  what to do with  it.
Will it ever have a good shape? Should I  trim it or leave it alone?

I’m no expert … never grown an acer … but from what I know of trees and shrubs in general I’d let it decide itself what sort of form it wants to take before interfering … far better to see what it’s doing naturally and encouraging it rather than trying to make it do something it isn’t naturally tending towards … if that makes any sense at all. 😊

That makes perfect sense @Dovefromabove. I'll let it get on with it and maybe pot it on in the spring.
    Thank you.

I’m glad it makes sense … it was a rather ham-fisted sort of explanation 😳

I think that following its natural inclination should result in a more elegant result than trying to manipulate it into something different.

I hope you’re going to document its progress for us 😃
