Vine weevil in potted mint.

BiljeBilje Posts: 811
Mmmm never had this before. I grow several different mints in terracotta pots. I’ve been repotting them or rather the emerging new stems/shoots as you do. Anyway today I discovered several vine weevil grubs! I’ve had infestations in the usual potted plants…eg primroses but never in mints. Anyone had the same problem?
I've put my cuttings in a bowl of water and will leave them for a couple of days before potting up.

I don't think l've ever had a problem with them in pots of mint, but these days l think anything in a pot is at risk.
They are are a right PITA.

I’ve just repotted the bits, no sign of dead weevils in the soaking water so fingers crossed.

I discovered several vine weevils in my potted mint last year. That was a first for me too!

Being my usual pedantic self when it comes to insects but Vine Weevils aren't the only weevils and other species are known for being a pest of mint. My first suspect would be this native species  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otiorhynchus_ovatus

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Oh no another weevil to consider thanks for the info. I very rarely see adults.
