Hi SueAtoo! Basically, my support is a strong plastic pole in the centre of a one metre circular pit which I fill with a load of household waste material after lining it with newspaper to store water. An old wheelchair wheel is fixed to the top of the pole with 12 'Styx' hanging from it and poked into the edge of the pit. Each of the Styx is simply 2.5 standard drainage rods which, as I say, are everlasting in common with the rest of the parts. Initial cost was I think about £30 and is still doing sterling service with no sign of deterioration but more detail from nickatipixnetdotcom if you, or anyone else needs it. Pic attached.
@nick615 the sections are fairly freeform, so you could post whatever you like in e.g. Fruit & veg. There is the issue that older posts disappear from view, but there are several long-lasting threads in the various sections. I started the 'Fond of Fronds' thread which is usually quite dormant, but it does get revived every now and then. Even if there is no 'article' format you could still generate a lot of interest with your thoughts, methods and knowledge. On one or two occasions I've found it useful to write something in this forum so that I've documented something and could refer to it later.
I take your point but my 'problem' is the size of my items with multiple pics and stretching to maybe 2 sides of A4. That's where the system falls a bit short?
@nick615, one of this forum’s biggest attributes is the total acceptance of posts running to several paragraphs and with an emphasis on formal spelling and grammar.
If you’re wanting to upload posts that run to several pages - which I for one would welcome - I’d recommend writing a précis paragraph and then attaching your observations as a file to be downloaded.
Thanks, Ben. They say you learn something every day but, when I tried to select a file, only a very reduced list came up, i.e. only pics, and your advice failed me.
@nick615 I would suggest keeping the text in the post itself anyway, that's what the forum is for. I would prepare the text elsewhere; then I would insert the pictures first (with some newlines between them); then I'd copy-paste (as plain text) the bits of text where I want them before/after/between pictures, and then I'd remove any spurious newlines. If two A4 seems to overwhelm the entry box (I don't know if that might be the case) then perhaps introduce a split, artificial if necessary, and put the second part in a reply to your own post. This would be entirely in keeping with the spirit and purpose of this place. You could give it a try and see how it works out?
Thanks but, if you could see the article concerned, you'd see it isn't designed that way.....plus, if the Runner Bean one could be made to work, there might be a few others.
I'm sorry to appear pedantic but showing newbies how to grow 24 RB plants in a 3ft x 3ft piece of garden is worth spreading to the smaller gardeners. I've no doubt it's my poor computer knowledge to blame.
