Tree Peony Help & Advice

Alfie_Alfie_ Posts: 456
Hi,

I'm new to tree peonies. I have a few questions about the first ones I have bought. Firstly, why has the odd bud randomly gone rotten:

Especially when the plant overall (including the rest of the buds) look healthy:

Some of the leaves are also curling a bit in places too:

Any tips people have for getting tree peonies to flourish is much appreciated.

Are your plants indoors? Ours are only just starting to show any signs of leaf growth.
Our first one was Paeonia lutea which just wouldn't flower. A friend in the garden club suggested we put wood ash around the base late winter/early spring. And hey pesto...we had flowers that year. Maybe it was going to flower anyhow!
The other one is Paeonia delavayi. This one flowered without problems. We are in clay soil and both plants are pruned after so many years or if they (as all our plants seem to do) take over the paths.
We haven't noticed buds rotting off.

Hi @bertrand-mabel thanks for the info. They are both tree peony suffruticosa and are both outside in 15L pots currently.
