Root fungus?

BiljeBilje Posts: 811
Last Autumn I had some Auriculas in pots but they looked a bit poorly. I split them and kept them in my cold greenhouse over winter…they looked ok considering it was winter. Anyway yesterday I thought I’d plant 3/4 of them together in a larger post. They were reasonably well rooted but there appeared to be a fluffy white fungus on some roots. Is this a problem?

Look very closely at the fluffy stuff. It is more likely to be root aphids than anything else. They are tiny, but still visible under their waxy covering.
Sadly if it is, then in 30 years of having them on my auriculas I have never found anything that kills them.

Thanks Palustris I thought something like that was the case….i had lots of named primroses and Auriculas but have lost nearly all of them over the last 2-3 years.
Last autumn I planted 3 of the primroses into a border and they are doing fine, just starting to flower so that’s something.

I planted all my Auriculas out in the garden and despite the root aphids, they are thriving. Vine weevil don't kill them out there either.
I wish someone would comeup with something to deal with root aphids. I have tried every known insecticide without success.
Really upsetting thing is that even freshly rooted cuttings in new compost still get them within days.
