    I think it's Azara serrata

Most likely a fungal infection of some sort

    Billericay - Essex

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

    A copper-based fungicide may help.

Is the whole plant the same?  If it is just on one part, you could remove the worst affected leaves and see what happens.
  • many thanks thanks much appreciated

Ours suffers very badly with the winds but lower down the leaves are sheltered and they are ok. We thankfully haven't had any fungal infection on the plant.
It has been a great shrub in our garden and the flowers while small are scented and the bees love it.

Could it be cold-damage from winds? I used to grow Azara microphylla 'Variegata' of only borderline hardiness ; that was until the winter of 09/10 blasted it into oblivion .

I'd never heard of it and had to look it up but it doesn't seem to be aprticularly hardy unless you're coastal, or if it's in a sheltered, warmer site, so it could simply be adverse weather - wind, frost/ice etc. It cartainly sounds like it would struggle where I am.

The 2nd part of the name is 'serrata' - which describes the foliage.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
