What on earth are these?

I have two Pencil Cypress trees in terracotta pots and I’ve just noticed there are hundreds of these tiny things crawling all over the pots.

Does anyone know what they could be and if it’s an issue? They are only just a little bigger than an ant.

Thanks

I think they could be cypress aphids. The suck the sap out of cypress trees and cause brown patches.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Thank you! Yes that looks exactly right. I’ve also just noticed all the branches inside covered in them, I did wonder last year if some of the brown patches were from drought but now I know it was these things!

I will have to try and control them as I’ve got six Italian Cypress and they are my favourite!
