Italian Jasmine Pruning

Hello!

I think I have an Italian Jasmine shrub at the bottom of the garden. Although it leafs out fully in the spring, I don't think it flowers too well, probably because it's in a shady spot, which I think has only getting shadier by the year. Anyhow, it does still bear some lovely smelling flowers.

I think, as it has been neglected, it is due a tidy up after it flowers this spring. From what I read it flowers on old wood. There is old brown wood on the stems, which transitions to new green wood. How far back can I cut down this?

Also the RHS book suggests cutting out a couple of older stems from the ground. On my specimen the stems l seem to originate from a big woody clump of stem that sits proud of the soil. Is this where I should cut them back to?

Attached a photo - not come out all too well in this light
