Avacado Problems

These avacado plants are a year old. They been in this glass all of that time. It’s been about a month since I last changed the water. I went to check on them this morning and 😮 the pits have become rotten and black. The stem and the leaves are ok. The roots appear healthy too, but obviously I’m worried they’re on their way out. I’ll admit, I’m a useless plant keeper at the best of times, but I enjoy the occasional project. Please see the photo and offer any constructive advice if you have any.

What can I do to save these?

  • You can only try and plant it in soil. Presumably used up all the food that was in the seed.

  • Once your Avocado has produced roots in the water, it will require potting up.
Interesting to note that the stones will also sprout and root if you discard them into your compost bin/heap.
They are trees  and so you need to bear that in mind re their growth and requirements.  Whilst they are  unlikely to produce any fruit for you in the UK, they can make attractive house plants for a while until they grow too large.
