  As far as I know all plant rusts can only live on plants that are alive and can't survive in the soil

  My understanding is that each type of rust is specific to one type of plant  … so the rust from beans will not infect your leeks.

  Many thanks for your replies.  The link to the horticultural library has given me lots to take on board.  But it looks as though my leeks will be ok...
