Carex turning brown

Hi my carex feather falls  are turning brown at the ends do you think this is a winter thing or something else.
Thanks.

Pretty normal after winter weather.  :)
I just pull out, or snip off [right back to the centre]  dead foliage on carexes, as they don't tend to respond well to cutting back like you would do with deciduous grasses.
They also split easily, so you could separate that later on in spring, and probably get plenty of new plants. I do that too. The smaller sections get potted up to grow on, and the main, or bigger pieces, can be replanted.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks.

Yes, my carex grasses do that.  If you want to divide the clump, there will be newer greenery lurking within it.  They bulk up quite quickly.
  • Thanks viewahead do they sort themselves out or will I have to devide them . I've got two and I really  like them but I don't need anymore.

Like many plants,  they benefit from dividing to keep them rejuvenated.
If you don't want more, you can always give them away, or just chuck out the worst bits.  :)

I agree with Fairygirl.  Dividing them really helps keep the leaves in good health.  👍  I generally discard older, floppy bits.
  • I've chopped lots of carex grasses back hard when they've got a bit ragged. They've always recovered well. Might take half a year but they get there in the end.
  • Thanks Robert.Only planted them last year and they have done really well .
Lots of good advice so I'll leave them for a bit and see how they get on.
