Cherry laurel - diseased or dying?

Morning All,

I've recently planted some cherry laurel plants and they've been in the ground a couple.of months, some of them look a little poorly, yellow leaf here and there and some brown. It's not overly clay like soil, it's got good drainage and I haven't watered as it's been so wet lately. Could it be the location? Would seaweed help or blood fish and bone ?

Thanks in advance.

Best James

They look OK to me @james-HYumfQs, no worse than a lot of shrubs over winter.  If you prepared the ground well before planting by adding plenty of organic matter they should start to settle in and grow well soon. You could also use some blood fish and bone as you have suggested, I often use it at this time of year for recently planted trees and shrubs.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

I agree … I’d be pleased with those … even evergreens lose leaves, it’s just they do it a few at a time throughout the year rather than all at once.

@jamesHYumfQs April/ May is the time of year they shed the most leaves all normal. They cannot continuously support the same leaves.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Thanks so much, best to be honest, they aren't horrendous just 3 or 4 of them showing yellow leaves and some Browning. The soil is very well draining below a redwood tree with good shade and plenty of sunlight later on in the day. I added some rose tree and shrub compost to the oversized holes when planting so fingers crossed they will be okay. Very bog standard, but will be ordering about 120 grisellinia for the next run. 🙏🏻
