Ketchup and toothpaste dregs

When the bottle or tube is nearly empty do you repeatedly squeeze, twist, shake and squirt to get out the last few pence worth?

It’s not what it saves that’s most important to me … it’s that I hate waste. Growing up not that long after the WW2, with a mother who went through rationing, we were brought up not to waste anything. It was considered to be a moral issue and is fixed in my DNA.
I could be rich as Rockefeller and would still squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom up to get every last bit … did just that this last week … put off starting a new tube by several days 😇

    That sensitive toothpaste’s not cheap😊.

But did you cut off the top inch of the tube? You will find about a week's worth of toothpaste lurking in there even after you have squeezed the tube until it is flat. And yes, I am mean but I object to throwing away something I have paid for.

Ketchup is easy as you just add a little boiling water to the glass bottle, and you have yourself more (thinner) ketchup. I use ketchup for making chilli only, pretty much, so it works just fine.

The thing that is really worth cutting up is face creams or similar - which aren't cheap and loads can be left in the bottom or neck of a tube. God knows how much of that people throw out because they haven't cut it up. In one design of tube I use, I reckon 10% is left in the neck unless I cut it.

With face cream (etc) in tins or nice tubs, I soak the labels off and keep the tin. They are great for storing craft stuff. I do use them or give them, else I wouldn't keep them for "one day". That way madness lies.

I remember as a youngster rolling the tube up from the bottom until you couldn’t roll anymore. The tube was duly squeezed rigorously as we went along. So we were “ rollers” 😊

I did that too @Songbird-2 but the tubes don't roll like that nowadays. I sometimes fish OH's tubes out of the bin to finish them

This does remind me of once reading that Mr Colman, when asked how he made his fortune from mustard replied:
"I make my money from the mustard that people throw away on the sides of their plate."
Yes, I am a squeezer, wringer roller and any other type of extrication mover to 'empty' all similar tubes.

Absolutely agree, plastic handcream tubes once anymore of the contents refuses to be squeezed out I cut in half and find this can be slotted back over the tube to keep the remaining contents from drying, there is always a few more uses worth around the neck of the tube that just needs a finger to extract 👆😊
