Is this bonkers

I bought one of those heated airers to dry clothes but haven't really been using it.  I wondered if I could use it as propergator if I rest a seed trays on it.  I tried to check Google but couldn't find anything.  Is it a bonkers idea..... don't laugh......

I think the lack of light might be a problem… could you rig something up with a grow light … SAFELY!

  • It might be a good idea to check what temperature the airer gets to - is it adjustable? And compare it to the temperature propagators get to.

  • @Dovefromabove, I think using the cover is optional. I may be wrong as I don't have one myself.

But without the cover to ‘contain’
the warmth, will the temperature be high enough to make any difference?

I would put a cover on the seed tray, one of those plastic clear ones.  The airer will heat the tray from below warming the soil and encouraging growth I'm hoping. I do have grow lights.  I will check the temperature of airer.

Worth experimenting, but do be careful with the water + electricity combo

I don't think it's bonkers; might work provided it doesn't get too hot and there is enough sunlight.
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
  • It must be similar to a radiator?  I know there are different designs of airers, so maybe a table or shelf could be put in the middle of the airer, if it is safe to do so. There are quite a few seeds that germinate with heat and not much light, for instance.

I suspect you might get cooked seeds.
