Should I give up on this tree?

I’ve had this conference pear tree for about 5 years and it’s hardly grown. It also has lesions in the bark and the pears always have cracks in them.

What do you think?

I tried growing a Conference Pear tree, and discovered later that pears can take a long time to get going. The area it was in was too shaded and I had to give up when it did not grow as expected. I wish I had planted an apple tree instead. I have since read that pear trees prefer cooler winters than what I could offer. I am sure experienced pear-growers can give you some advice.

Should I give up on this tree?
