Cornus mas

We have a Cornus mas (Cornellian cherry) which was planted 5 years ago. Last year we had a few flowers but no fruit. This year there are more flowers but will we get fruit?
Does anyone grow this in their garden and had any success with it?
Many thanks as always.

We had three different forms in our last garden, but only the original form ever produced berries. They may be edible, but there is little or no taste to them. It took a while for that one to get going.
The one we have here is probably a bit young yet to berry.
  • Mine is ancient.  Never fruited, but that doesn't bother me.  The minute lime green /acidic yellow flower clusters in early spring and autumn colouring are enough for me.

Last year mine barely flowered and no fruit at all. I blamed the extreme heat of the previous summer (you've got to blame something and it was looking quite parched). This year we are back to flowering properly and hoping for the usual fruit. There are never as many fruits as there are flowers though

  • @nutcutlet so you have had fruit. Do you eat them? Cook them? Jam them?

I'm someone who has herbs all around the garden and uses dried herbs from the supermarket. I did taste one and found it insipid. I tried to germinate some and failed, I've never had any seedlings occur naturally

  • I got two almost ten years ago and not got any fruit yet in spite of flowers most years. The flowers seem better this year and the weather seems milder than usual so maybe they will have a better chance of getting pollinated this year.
    Happy gardening!
