Small hanging pots - what herbs to grow?

Hi all, planning ahead for warmer weather!

We have about 10 of these hanging pots to hang near our back door for an easily accessible herb garden (no space in our kitchen sadly). We've drilled drainage holes and the plants will be in a smaller plastic pots inside these.

The pots are about 4-5" inches across. What herbs work best in pots this size? So far I have basil and oregano in mind. (Sage and rosemary I'm going to plant in a bigger container, but not sure if thyme would be better smaller or larger. We already have mint.)

with plenty of drainage thyme should be ok. The pots look small so they will need water often, especially the basil. Mint too should be ok, there are many small leaved types of basil and mint which should do well in pots. It is nice to look forward to summer.

@coccinella Thank you. Forgot to say in my post that we have mint in abundance, I've edited my post to add that. I'll bear that in mind about the watering :)

Thyme will be fine. There are lots of different varieties to try. Add grit to the compost, they like to be free draining. I grow three varieties in an alpine trough.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Thymus serpyllum Magic Carpet is a creeping thyme that will trail over the edge of your pots.  I grew it from seed a few years ago and the leftover plants survived various periods of neglect for a couple of seasons in 4” pots until I finally rewarded their struggle by planting them out.
I’ve never cooked with it though so can’t comment on its culinary value.
Lovely thyme, easy to grow from seed that gets totally covered in flowers.

Have you considered nasturtiums easy to grow from seed and you can use the flowers and leaves in salad. Look pretty too

chives. Possibly coriander if you grow it as a very quick annual (it bolts in a nanosecond)
