Log burner outside?
We have a cast iron log burner in our living room. It's capacity is enough to heat almost the whole house which means, if we light it, we end up on the floor to avoid the heat. I thought, naively, that it would be a simple matter to buy a small 5kw capacity burner and swap.
No. 9000€ and lots of mess.
Turns out they cost thousands of euros which is amazing as there's no technology like a CH boiler would have. It's just a shell that burns wood.
Second surprise after the technician came to check - our installation is not conform with current safety regs. We have to have the outside chimney treated to make it waterproof, the flue lined to make it heatproof and non combustible, an access trap for cleaning and maintenance and additional lining to the wall behind the fire as our plaster board is ordinary and not fireproof.
Not going there so the question is - can I use it outside instead of a firepit or will it just sit and rust?

Is the old log burner going to rust outside or do I need to find it a new home?
And what is that compared to the cost of getting the old one reglo? Pros and cons.
It has to go. It's just a big black blob sitting gathering dust. We have CH and we have a normal built-in fireplace in the dining room if needed.
I think a cast iron stove will rust quite fast outside . Steel one will probably do better for longer but will start to rust as well, how long that will take is hard to say .
May be better off with a stone / brick firepit ?
we moved house , there the living room was very large , the heat from the log burner was ok there , doors open the heat went up the stairs , I tried selling it , but no takers , there was a leak that made the room damp , the stove rusted !
