Compost Lid

Hi

Can I please ask whether you have lids on your compost bins/boxes? Does it help or hinder?

Thanks

I have lids on all my compost bins. I find it hold the heat in and reduces pests and vermin.

All my compost bins have lids. It gives the worms somewhere to chill out and stops the heap getting too wet.

I've got 3 big compost bays ... all 2 sq m. I have a couple of layers of an old wool carpet on the 2 bays that are "cooking", but the bay which is being used as a holding area is open to the elements.

Thank you for your replies. For those with lids - can I ask which compost bin you have please?

I have four black rubbish bins with drainage holes drilled in the bottom and clip lids. They works very well.

Also two HotBins (one second hand). I am not a fan of the micro one. If managed constantly and properly they can covert waste very fast.

This is my home made bin. As you can see I use a camouflage sheet over it.

This is my bought plastic version of @BenCotto's setup, with lids & carpet covers. My previous wooden version eventually rotted away so I thought I'd splash out.

This is how it was delivered:

Thank you for your replies. @lunarsea where do you buy yours?
  • I have an old sheepskin, couple of old blankets, and a sheet of vinyl on the top - really helps keep the heat in...
