late planted bulbs

Due to ill health I wasn't able to plant the bulbs I purchased. Is it too late or should I just pack them away for next year?

Hope you’re much better now 😊

Your bulbs won’t keep until next winter … they will try to grow but will rot if they’re not planted … so plant them now … you’ve nothing to lose. They may flower this year, or if not they may just produce foliage this year and flower next year. 🤞

I have this afternoon planted about a 100 allium bulbs.  They were dug up last summer when I put the bedding plants in and it was too wet in the autumn to do much. A hawthorn fell over on xmas day next to the substation, so  National  Grid cleared it all , the low wall/pile of rubble and put a 6ft fence in.  This gave us a border about 3 ft wide and 15ft or so long.  I've just recovered from a bout of lurgy so I dug holes and threw them in.  They are already sprouting , so I will give them a top dressing of compost and then sow some wildflower seeds on top.   At this time of year I usually resort to digging a trench in the veg patch and throwing any leftovers in. If they flower I use them for cut flowers. As Dove says, they won't save as bulbs for next year.
