Tulip and daffodil bulbs

Red mapleRed maple Posts: 1,138
I planted some out back in November, but not all of them as I intended to come back to the task. However, with one thing and another, I’ve forgotten to do so, so now I have quite a few of each to plant. I’m assuming it’s too late to plant them now, but will they store until next October/November, do you think, if kept in a dry, cool place, or will it be a waste of my time to try?

You're better planting them. They're  unlikely to store well for autumn planting.
You could do them in pots, and then place them in any gaps if they start to grow, or have them as a display if it's a nice pot rather than just a plastic one or similar.  :)

Thanks @Fairygirl. I did wonder about using some pots for the ones I’ve got left. I’ll need to protect the tulip bulbs until they shoot, though, as last year a rat helped himself to some dwarf ones I’d potted up. I wasn’t a happy bunny, but bought more and made a metal netting cover thingy (or rather, OH did 😁), for the pots to keep the pest out.

Yes - better to get them planted. They may not flower, or they may flower later than normal, but as long as they're viable, it's far better than trying to store them, and they should be fine the following year.  :)

I cover species tulips in pots with netting until they're growing, to deter squirrels. Are you sure that's not what's been taking them?

It could have been a squirrel, but we did have a rat to deal with, unfortunately.
