It's really difficult to ID with no leaves... but my guess is that your tree is a Prunus of some sort, a plum or a cherry.

Hopefully others will have a look too, and maybe disagree with me... stranger things have happened!  But if I'm right, it shouldn't be pruned now or it may succumb to silver leaf disease.  Pruning in mid summer is best.

Are the stems on the right of the photo growing from below a graft point on the main stem?  If so, they need removing right to the base, as they will be growing from the rootstock and won't produce the fruit you expect.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Thankyou for the advice, I'll leave alone until the summer months then.
I think it might be cherry but it didn't produce any fruit last year.
Do I need another tree to cross pollinate a cherry or is this incorrect?
    Thankyou

It does look like a cherry to me as well. They are generally grafted and it looks like yours has suckered at the base. They tend to be self fertile which means you normally don't need another tree to get fruit but they do tend to fruit better if they are cross pollinated.
The cold spring we had last year could have stopped fruit production and it doesn't help that it looks to be in a very exposed position. If you do get fruit set this year then it will likely need netting to stop the birds, they love cherries which is why I never get to eat ours.
