Mulching bulbs area

Hi

is it recommended to mulch in an area where I have bulbs (tulips mainly)? My worry is if the mulch would block the bulb and it will not grow the plant

thanks

Bulbs will happily grow through mulch.

I mulched with a good 2-3 of inches of mushroom compost in December, and the snowdrops and daffodils haven't had any problems pushing through.

I've been putting a thick layer of bark chips on my bed of tulips every year as I use it as a path for accessing other parts of the garden once the tulips die down. The tulips always grow through the mulch unhindered!

  • Thanks all. I will apply mulch then!
