Elixer Soil Warming Cable Thermostat

Hello all,
New member, first post.
I've just set up a 2nd propagation bench, and installed the Elixir soil warming cable thermostat. It's a different model from my first set up, and I'm having a bit of a head scratch about the settings. It's just the DELAY setting (adjusting the compressor, it says on instructions). What am I not understanding about this? I want to set the temp, fine, and that's it really, just like my first thermostat, but this DELAY setting has caused me to put this question out to anyone out there...and to say hello at the same time.

    I was a bit bewildered as to why a soil warming thermostat should have a Compressor Delay function, so I had a look at the instructions.

    Elixir are using a generic thermostat that can control heating AND COOLING for some  reason (i.e. financial) and they've just stamped their logo on it and given the generic instructions....
    If you set it up just for heating it should be ok.
    But nul points to Elixir

    The delay relates in some way to the compressor in an air-conditioning unit when cooling the air.

    Pete, you're a star. My needs are simple concerning a prop bench, and maybe I should've stuck with a simple dial function to set temp. Even so, many thanks.

    The boffins who design these things just can’t help themselves it seems. My first prop bench thermostat was quite expensive, had a number of functions and was very complicated. I lost the already ropey but better than nothing instructions after the first season and none of us could work out how to reset it. I chucked it and bought these because they’re simple and easy. ie set the temp with 2 buttons and forget it.

    One works my indoor seed propagator the other lives in my greenhouse working the soil warming cable on my big bench. They’ve proven accurate enough  and reliable for the last 3 years and were under half the price of the first infuriating, unnecessary needless, multi function POS.

    You’ll obviously want to use your existing thermostat but I thought I’d let you know about these anyway.
