Thank you to those that replied to my original post last year identifying my house plant.

  • When should I trim it back, and how far do I cut it. Can it be left to grow on its own? Because it was the last thing my wife ever did plant wise before her death, I do not want to kill it. I would like to split it and re-pot, but am unsure if that can be done, or if that would kill it too. Any advice welcome. Have just given it a water first since mid Dec, and have placed in dining room to get a bit of sun for  half hour or so, before replacing in lounge which will not be in direct sunlight. Thanks

I think @Busy-Lizzie was one who replied to your original question  :)

I have tagged her so that hopefully she can help, or point you in the right direction.

Hello @AnniD and @g.thornley74864597, I'm not an expert although I have one. I don't want to give wrong advice as it's important to you so I've looked it up.

  • Thank you @AnniD and @Busy-Lizzie . That has been a great help. So much want to preserve it and keep it flourishing. Thanks again.

    They are fairly robust .
Mine grows in a North facing enclosed porch and seems quite happy, despite erratic watering and lack of sunlight.
The porch is unheated, but gets some warmth from the living room  on the other side of a glazed door. It also benefits from blasts of arctic air whenever the outer door is opened! I'm not recommending this way of growing the plant, just saying :)

It looks a lovely plant.  You're doing well with it, @g.thornley74864597. 👍
  • Thanks. It has done well to survive a first year of virtually total neglect. That was five years ago then I began to take note and began to water it and move it into a brighter spot, not direct sunlight though, and it responded very quickly, growing into what you see now. I have become very attached to it, and would hate to see anything happen to it. Hoping splitting it in the spring will go well. Fingers(not green ones unfortunately ) crossed!
  • Thanks Buttercupdays and ViewAhead
