Artificial Leaves

Hello

So this is a random one.

my neighbour has screening that is covered in fake ivy type artificial leaves.

They are coming off in all the gales we’ve had and coming into my garden. I’ve collected a small plant pot full.

As they are plastic, are these classed as littering?

They are bright green and don’t blend in into the grass like leaves do.

Yes it’s a very trivial thing, I’m just curious to know what others think?

Have a lovely day 😊

Why these things are on sale at all is a mystery to me, but there we are.

It probably isn't "littering" as such, as your neighbour is using the item for its designed purpose on their private land.  The fact that it happens to impact you is just one of those things, in the same way their use of a wood burning stove would impact the air quality in your garden.

As the plastic is easy to see, I'd just gather it and bin it ... or offer it back to them along with a tube of super glue. 😁

😂 the glue idea made me laugh. Ok, I will bin it all. I think it’s just a case of being poorly put together as it’s only 6 months old

With another storm on the way you could end up with yet more plastic ivy to collect. I'd much rather have the real thing as it can at least rebuild itself if it gets damaged by the weather.
  • With any luck Storm Isha will shred it so badly they'll realise how rubbish fake plants are. One of my neighbours installed one of those kite things in the shape of a hawk, presumably to try and scare off the gulls. It was constantly bobbing about in the wind in my line of sight and was really annoying. First storm ripped it to pieces and it was never replaced. Gulls couldn't care less about it either.

Unless they go out and buy another one ... making B&Q (or whichever retailer supplied it) believe demand is up ... so more stock is ordered ... from China ... which travels on a giant container ship ... which gets shot at by terrorists ... which causes retaliatory bombing campaigns ... which escalates ... which trashes the planet further.

    😱

Oops ... even fake greenery is potentially political. 😉

IME fake greenery is potentially much more political than the real thing … for several reasons 🫣

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Just round the corner from me 2 neighbours put screening on their short front garden walls. (because of the bus stop frequented by college students).  One was 'quality' and has lasted well. The other deteriorated within the year and was taken down.

Our oil tank is very ugly and sitting on a large slab of concrete. It's right by the path so impossible to plant a hedge or anything in front of it. I've put a fake leaf screen on it and it isn't quite such an eyesore. Anywhere else and I would hate fake leaves.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

The screens that are already made, I’ve not seen leaves fall off. This construction is bamboo canes with individual sprigs of fake ivy leaves wound round it. Hence why they are flying off left, right and centre.
