  If you are watching them buy and use one of these high powered water pistols or do what my friend does. He runs at them waving his arms about like mad.

  @NettleD I have never come across this before. However it is the only colour they can see.

  I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

  @philippasmith2 When it comes to links I am still learning. I do remember as a child my Mum complaining that the birds loved the flowers of yellow crocus and I think yellow primulas too. This lead me to squirrels at some point. I have grown Winter Jasmine it was close to the house, lots of squirrels they never ate the flowers but there were plenty of other things to eat too. I wonder if these were short of food, once they find a food source they do return regularly.

  @GardenerSuze Yes, the Sparrows do like the prims - peck, peck    I have Winter Jasmine and Grey Squirrels too.  Never seen them bother with the Jasmine altho they often clamber thru it on the way to the feeders which was what made me ask.  They go for the Hazel nuts but not much else thankfully.
