Shed greenhouse combi advice

I'm thinking of getting a shed greenhouse combination, probably wood, has anyone advice on this? Manufacturer/supplier? an open one or one with a separate door to the shed? Anything else?

I can’t offer first hand experience as I have a greenhouse not a combi but I do store some stuff in it. I wish I could hide the stored stuff out of sight so would go for a wall if I was buying a combi.

I would think through carefully what you will be keeping in your shed as this may dictate some of the practicalities such as a wall or not and where the door is. For example, once everything is in full growth, there wouldn’t be room in my greenhouse to move large items, lawnmowers etc, out through the greenhouse.

If it’s lots of tools and smaller stuff having a wall between the sections gives you extra hanging space which may be more practical and efficient. A wall will also act as protection for the planting on the greenhouse side and hide the (if like me) clutter of a shed space.

I’ve seen some with the shed door on the side so the two areas are quite separate so if it was mainly non-greenhouse stuff I was keeping in there, I would go for that (space, model allowing) If it was mainly stuff I was going to use in the greenhouse, I would have the door straight into the greenhouse (with the wall).

I don’t think I’ve seen any that aren’t wooden? Wood greenhouses look nice but aluminium are less maintenance and the spray painted can look very smart. Having said that if I was getting a combi, I would probably go for wood as I personally think the metal sheds look “hard” and slightly industrial.

Rhino do a very smart looking one, l'm assuming it's not wood.
A lot depends on your budget and  the space you have.

Plenty of examples on my search engine but appear very expensive.
  • It is wood @AnniD

  • Unfortunately the war in Ukraine made the prices of timber rocket and can't imagine they'll go down anytime soon @Waterbut so many garden structures have reached a level of unaffordability now they seem prohibitive for most budgets.

I checked what the summer house we installed five years ago costs now and it has more than doubled which seems absolutely mad.

It's gorgeous. I was sighing over it - the natural wood version (not so much the green). And yes, it costs more than a whole large summerhouse cost some years ago (incl electric, foundations, water and insulation).

Thanks everyone, I have seen the Swallow ones (seen the Jay locally) which do seem very well made though there are others.

  • I agree @AnniD it's very nice...was looking on their website the other night as will probably get a Rhino greenhouse when we move. How I wish they made a version with a little vestibule for some vintage style but at least their standard sage colour is very nice.
