What are these tuburs?

Hello, Geranium Dad here, I've just found there tuburs. I don't know what they are or what to do with them. They were just out on the ground in my Mum's garden.

Dhalias?
Peonies?
Begonias?

Any ideas folks?s

Not begonias or dahlias - wrong shape tubers, the shoots don't look right and it's far too early for them to be producing new shoots outdoors in the UK. Could possibly be peonies, they're hardy and start into growth much earlier. Rather odd for them to be lying on the surface of the ground - has someone or something been digging in the garden? You could replant them, or pot them up (with those new shoots above the surface) and see what happens.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • It looks like someone (probably my Dad) has upended a pot a while ago, and by chance I've come across them while tidying up.

With those new shoots above the surface, I wouldn't be able to plant them very deep though... I was thinking to plant them around 10cm.

Thanks Jenny. I wonder what they are! Lol

If they're peonies they shouldn't be planted deep - it stops them flowering.

  • Most likely to be Paeonies. Thank you both. Jenny, I didn't plant them very deep. I mostly wanted to get them planted before the frosts arrive tonight and the next few days!

I have wrapped the pot in some fleece and put a plastic bag over the top, to keep them a bit warmer.
