Sweet Pea Sowing

January last year I sowed some sweet peas in root trainers and although I can't be certain (I can't find last year's diary), I'm fairly certain that after sowing I kept them outside in the cold frame, not indoors on the window sill. I was intending to sow some this weekend but am unsure as to whether to keep them indoors or whether to put them in the cold frame. I'm in Leicester and the temperatures are varying between 5 and -3. Allegedly. What's the best thing to do? Keep them on a window sill or leave them to it in the cold frame?

I sow mine indoors, but as soon as they have germinated they go out to a cold g/h.

I did the same as @punkdoc, although mine are under the patio table not in a cold g/h

  • @punkdoc Do you need to harden them off at all or just whack them straight out? Indoors we're at around 18 degrees, would a 10+ degree drop be an issue?

I have always just shoved mine out, but I suppose if it is very cold I probably wait a few days. I have one lot in the g/h that I sowed in October and usually sow my second lot in early February.
