Help rescue chilli plant

Hi please can someone help me in my chillli plant I have no idea what’s wrong with it. I have a water gauge to see if needs watering and when put near roots it says moist.

Leaves are dropping off and are curling inwards some are crispy.

  • It looks as if the atmosphere is too dry. It is difficult to keep chillies going indoors during a UK winter. The dry white stuff on the leaves looks like white fly or mould.

What can I do to revive it?
  • You really can't, just let it be dormant somewhere cold and protected from frost with just a bit of moisture from time to time and it will start to grow well in the spring.

They only way to keep them going well in an indoor location it would require grow lights as there's no way you'd get enoy light for a chilli plant to be happy with the low light we get their time of year. They really are outdoor plants and don't like the lack of airflow and central heating...so I'm afraid it's a battle you can't win easily without using ridiculous amounts of energy to fight nature.

If your trying to over winter a chillies plant I think chilli growers cut all the branches off leaving just the main upright stem, keep the soil fairly dry and hope it comes back the following spring. Or just sow fresh seeds next spring.
  • This RHS video is nice a clear too

  • I brought 6 chili plants indoors for the winter; 4 were infested with white fly, so I disposed of them in the woods.  The other 2 are under a grow light 14 hours per day and are not entirely happy, but they're alive and actually growing new leaves nearer to the base of the plants.  I spritz them daily and water once per week, but I'm thinking of putting them under plastic to increase the humidity; the air in my house is incredibly dry this time of the year.

I am with Leadfarmer on this one as that is exactly what I do and each plant can last three years at best. Prune late autumn. The bare stem should be about 6 inches high and I wintered it in my unseated greenhouse. If you have a heated plant tray now is the time to plant your chilli seeds.

Possibly better of sowing some seeds now for new plants.
