Is this a Pieris japonica of some sort?

Hi, I want to remove this large shrub as it has never flowered nor produced berries/fruit of any sort and I have some nice other plants I can replace it with. Just wanted to check if it’s a variety of Pieris?  My Mum says she’ll take it if I can get a decent bit of root out. Thanks 😊

It certainly looks similar to my Pieris. Odd that it doesn't flower though??

To be honest although it's a nice looking shrub, if you would prefer something else there then so be it. Your garden is for your enjoyment after all.

Thank you! I think it has never flowered as it’s too shaded there (north facing) for spring flowers and in a bit of a frost pocket. Also the ground is really congested with far too many shrubs in a smallish bed. My plan is to put a weeping standard rose (Alberic Barbier) in a huge terracotta pot there. Thanks again 😊

Definitely pieris, is it a recent photo? It ought to be covered in buds right now. How odd!

@Jess91 I just took the photos today.  I’ve lived here for 17 years and never noticed it flowering once. My Mum has a better spot for it in her garden so hopefully it’ll be happier there. Thank you 😊

They do flower in plenty of shade, and frost isn't a problem either, so there must be another reason for not flowering.
It could be very dry there though - against a wall, and lots of competition. That certainly won't help.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks @Fairygirl. My Mum has now said it’s too big for her garden so back to the drawing board. 🪴
