Half bricks and garden borders etc

Has anyone bought half-sized bricks? I need to make some low brick walls to create raised beds where tree roots are near the current surface. I also need to make other low walls for raised borders to create ease of access. The height will vary between 3 bricks to 5 bricks, I imagine.

I need full size bricks of course, but the problem is creating corners with single-file  bricks: is there a way of doing this without cutting some bricks in half? Is buying half-size bricks a good way of creating corners. The shape of the walls will be rectangular and triangular, i.e. angled rather than curved.

This is how you deal with corners on brick walls, the bricks alternate so you don't need to worry about half bricks. In some bonds you do have to insert cut down bricks (e.g. "queen closers") to make the corner work, but they are inserted one or two bricks away from the corner.

You might need half bricks to finish the end of a wall if it's only one leaf thick. (If it's two leaves thick, you turn the end brick through 90 degrees on alternate courses). You can cut or chop bricks in half with a bolster, insert them with the cut end inwards.

Thanks @Loxley.  As long as I can find some 'queen closer bricks', I will be able to make these low retaining garden border/bed walls. I think  in terms of the wall shapes, squares will be easier than triangles so I will make all the walls square or rectangular.

I will need to buy in everything, and won't be able to cut the bricks myself, due to physical limitations.

P.s. if anyone has made a garden wall, how was the experience?

I have (very low wall, only a few bricks high with no foundation). I am not a very good bricklayer but was happy with a very 'rustic' appearance!

I would say if you are not capable of cutting a brick with a bolster, you should probably think hard about whether you are up to building a brick wall.

The rustic look will be fine for me too. I have time to do these little retaining walls, but not cash to pay others to do it, so it does not matter to me that it will probably take me a year to create them. I have specific physical injuries that mean I just cannot do the movements required to cut bricks in half, but I can move bricks and place them and create foundations etc.
