Another alternative for Box is Pittosporum Golf Ball which is also evergreen and has a naturally round shape. It’s more of a grey green or sage green but an attractive option to consider.

Now that is a most excellent idea! 😁 My neighbour has one in a container and it looks lovely.
I purchased a ball-shaped euonymus once, but it was impossible to keep like that as it wanted to splay outwards the whole time.
Yes, it’s an easy one to maintain in a round shape. I’ve been lucky so far with Box here, I’ve got two in pots which are nearly 20 years old now and still looking good!
Mine are lost, sadly. 🙁 First damage started about 5 yrs ago and I managed to keep it to a minimum initially, picking off the pesky caterpillars, but they gradually went deeper and deeper into the shrub. I have left the leafless framework of branches in place and ivy is growing up to cover them.
I planted up some old cattle troughs and used a mix of soil, my own garden compost, peat free compost and most importantly for drainage grit. Sharp sand would also work. I top them up most years with manure or garden compost which enriches the mix. As the old compost degrades the levels drop so it's important to keep topping up. Seems to work well.
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
