Thanks everyone, I appreciate your advice and thoughts. It's helped me realise I've been overthinking things (I've had so many RHS and plant site tabs open) and I need to simplify.

Please don’t plant buddleia unless it’s wernerri, the sterile strain. It’s a scourge in the wider environment, massively invasive and not even particularly wildlife friendly. Don’t buy into the hype. Only a few species have proboscis long enough to feed on it and it’s contains very little nectar per flower. It also does nothing for the life cycle. Go native, a dog wood or hedging tree kept small to support butterflies throughout their life cycle or something like winter honeysuckle which at least provides nectar when it’s widely unavailable
