Best Mulch to use

Hi Folks,

Long time no speak, sorry about that I've started a new job in the NHS (the none striking lot :0)

Just a quick couple of questions

I have no Leaf Mulch, so which is the best Mulch to use and when is it best to do it?

Depends on what you're mulching. Shrubs and trees are fine with anything heavy like bark, but it's not so good for perennials. Compost of any kind would be better for those, and is fine for anything.
Rotted manure is also good for most plants, but around perennials - especially those whose crowns could rot, it's always wise to keep any mulch clear of the centre of the plant.
Organic types of mulch can be used at almost any time of year as it breaks down and improves the soil structure, as well as inhibiting weeds,  but if you're in a consistently drier part of the country, it's best to do it after soil is well moistened, so through winter and into spring is most beneficial as it helps retain moisture heading into summer.  :)

That's funny, this has already been posted and answered. @Have a go Nick must have posted it twice.

My namesake doesn't say what he wants the much for?  For nutrition and weed suppressant I'd place something circular, e.g. plastic bucket, over each plant while I'd scatter chicken manure pellets around them, followed by lawn mowings.
  • It's just for general plants etc

I've given you a rough guide in my earlier post @Have a go Nick. Compost is fine for everything though.
