Olives. Not Gardening

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
I opened some fat green olives stone-in on Christmas day. How long will they last in the fridge? I haven't got a  cast iron stomach! If they're not going to keep in the fridge, I assume they don't freeze well but would they be ok for cooking?

I would keep them until they grow fur coats … if they last that long … we love olives … if they’re not already in brine or oil you can keep them covered with some olive oil, then you can use that for cooking afterwards 😋

They will be OK for cooking. I would say they are still ok to eat now but perhaps give them a rinse.

  • Are they in oil or brine or something else? Hopefully they have been covered rather than exposed to air?

They were in brine or lemon juice and possibly some oil. In a dish with cling film so they haven't dried out. Glad they'll be ok to eat. They weren't cheap! Thanks all

  • They sound delicious ... bung 'em this way if there's too many  ;)

The posh ones in plastic containers from the deli counter or the chilled cabinet usually have fairly short use by dates. However, the tin I bought for Christmas says they will keep for  several weeks in the fridge, decanted out of the tin to a non metallic container. Really pleased to discover that, I’m the only one that eats them, and it’s hard work to finish them all quickly.

They'll be fine in a covered container, non metallic for ages. I eat loads and OH doesn't and they keep well.

I’m going to try this! Will skip the chilli flakes, and use tinned olives, but I’m sure it will be delicious.
