Please save my plant

Please can someone advise me how to save this plant? It’s dropped off significantly over the last three days. I thought it was deprived from light but that’s made it worse. Is the plant past the point of no return?

if you had a picture this would be good.

    I my garden.

  • Have another look @Simone_in_Wiltshire photos are provided now. It doesn't look great for the larger trunk but at least the smaller one looks very healthy. If you slightly squeeze both do they feel equally firm @ironflexuk44037 ? It seems like a classic case of overwatering to me. How frequently do you water this time of year?

Hi everyone. I haven’t overwatered as much as you might think. The problem started when I placed it closer to the windows (and therefore exposed to the cold)

My friend’s auntie has suggested to keep the plant in a warm place and it should bounce back as it’s been frosted and is now too cold.

    Thoughts anyone? Many thanks

Cold is probably the issue then, particularly if the area near your window is draughty, eg if you had the window open or it's not double-glazed. Particularly likely if you closed the curtains with the plant between the curtain and the window so it wouldn't get much warmth from within the room. I think all you can do is keep it in a better location and wait. The wilted top part might not recover fully but the smaller trunk looks OK. You can remove any leaves that turn brown because they won't go back to green.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • You can cut down the larger trunk as far as you like.  If it is "live" then it will begin to form shoots from the side or from the base.
I'd concentrate on the smaller trunk which appears healthy.  You may want to check whether the whole thing needs re potting tho it's difficult to tell from the pic what the size of the pot is.
Also worth checking the ceramic pot the plastic pot is in when watering - a tight fit and presumably no bottom drainage ?
These plants are very hard to kill but won't withstand frost and don't appreciate over watering at any time of year.
Hope you manage to sort it out  :)
  • Thank you everyone. I’ll keep it in a warmer place and hope that it comes back to life. There isn’t really anything brown at the minute.

    Appreciate all the advice.
