Some roses are more enthusiastic bloomers than others and seem not to know when to stop … when I was a child there was a deep red (almost black) rose in the garden that could almost be guaranteed to be in bloom at Christmas!  It was often popped in a small vase with some sprigs of holly and ivy for the Christmas dinner table.

My Moonlight is still flowering and I have a yellow climber that also has a couple of blooms - it happens most years

With the milder weather my red climbers are in bud again. Pretty amazing after a -3C freeze. My Moonlight is blooming too.
  • Always an added bonus if you have a rose flowering at Christmas Time. Often the flowers aren't as good as the first June flush but very cheering to have now.

    Brother Cadfael still flowering!
  • Ahhh ok then! I thought it was something to do with climate change 😬 my neighbour has a White rose I don’t know what it’s called, but it’s blooming all be it with one flower & I’ve seen some pink bush roses recently in bud!
  • I suppose they get pruned as normal in Jan/Feb?

Some of ours are flowering as are those of our neighbour.  The flowers are very small, but battling on.

We have a pink rose here,  no idea of the name,  it’s been here since 1987 when my parents moved in,  my dad used to pick the last rose on Christmas Day and give to my mum.  We had very cold winters back then and lots of snow.
