Fungi ID

Hi all,

I have today (after not having been out in the garden much over the past two months) discovered this fungus growing in a pot that has a healthy climbing rose and a dead hazel in it. I'm pretty certain that the hazel died in spring/summer due to lack of appropriate watering when I was ill, and not as the result of the fungus, but I could be wrong. I don't think it looks like honey fungus and it feels a bit late in the year for honey fungus to be fruiting, but it also looks like an old fruit. Is anyone able to offer any advice on what this might be?

Thanks.

It is a bit too far gone for I.D. but if there was only one cap then I don't think it was honey fungus which forms large clusters.
  • @steephill Yes, only one (that I've seen, at least), so fingers crossed that's the case and it's not honey fungus after all. Thank you for the information.

It could be a white chanterelle.
