No, my underwear has no bearing on my garden
The cutlery drawer is another matter. My cutlery is neatly arranged in a tray with divisions in it.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • My kitchen and clothing storage is very neat and organised.  My garden is more free-range. 😁

My cutlery is in an organized drawer with partitions,  the other one , with masher, fish slice, tin opener etc,  it’s a right jumble.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Who says a messy garden can't be fabulous?

    That was Wheelers' point.

I’ve often said that you only need to peep into a person’s cutlery drawer to have a sense of their personality - ie. organised, chaotic etc. ... I wonder if the people with lined-up forks, or lined-up knickers, are the same people who have highly manicured gardens? I wonder if the people with messy cutlery and knicker drawers have messy gardens.

Yes - this is basically my question - is there a correlation? No judgement from me. No right or wrong. I'm just interested if your drawers and cupboards give any kind of indiciation. I do agree that you should feel free to do as you like.

I would say my cutlery drawer is only neatly arranged because I have a special tray for it. Maybe the possession of a cutlery tray indicates something.

I think I'm getting neater as I get older and tireder. Mess is too much of  PITA, inside or out.

My cutlery drawers are well organised, a place for everything, and everything in its place, but that’s the way we designed it. My knicker drawer is not quite so tidy, but all my pants are rolled up, and vaguely sorted by colour. The garden however is more as @ViewAhead described as free range. In the house, I’m sort of in charge, in the garden nature has the upper hand. I would like the garden to be far better organised and with a lot less weeds, but I’ve learnt to be realistic.

Yes, I can see the connection
Our cutlery drawer has a divided tray, but things tend not to stay put in their proper place.....kind of like my garden which has quite a lot of self-seeders and spreaders. Of course the state of the cutlery drawer has quite a lot to do with OH's careless putting-away whereas the garden does a lot of it's own thing and I mostly referee/edit/squeeze in new things.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Both start out with a plan and  proceed to mutate into 'evolving areas'. Sporadic tidying when energy and inspiration strikes.
