If you have an RHS membership they may be able to help. Honey Fungus I believe can be spotted under a microscope. If there are no trees or shrubs struggling in your garden or a neighbours I would hold your nerve for now. If the problem does get worse there are plants that can cope better with Honey Fungus present. RHS have a list on line.
