Protecting from frost

I am considering getting some horticultural fleece to protect some of my plants. Is it easier to just buy a roll of it and wrap it around or buy the individual jackets? I have never done this before but last year wiped out a few of my plants. Any recommended suppliers please? What do you do to protect your garden? tia

  • I find rolls much easier to use that having premade shapes. Tend to change suppliers all the time, usually the cheapest with good reviews on eBay. Another good source, when we used to get veg boxes from Riverford, they used to offer used fleece in a box for very little money, it was in great condition with just a bit of mud from the field.

It's easily rinsed or even washed (at least, mine that I've had for donkey's ages is, maybe it's not the same quality now). Actually, I prefer it when it's got a bit grubby, less obtrusive than new bright white.

  • I use rolls too. You can use exactly what you need without having to buy the next size up to make sure. I only have a few small plants that get protection, though.

I have never bought it but I would imagine rolls or larger cuts strips offer better value for money.
And check the gsm, sorry if you already know, grams per square metre. is the weight of the material, some are super thin and flimsy, a higher number means a thicker better quality.
    I have seen 17gsm and 35gsm .
So they do make varied thickness /weight/quality. Something to consider when checking prices.

Hope your plants do come through the winter better than before.
